The Future of My Art.
The ideas are a flowin’. There are so many things I want to do with polymer clay that I’ve started keeping a list on my phone. I started it a couple months ago and it has gotten LONG.
Exhibiting. One of my goals is to do some gallery entries at some point. Not sure how far off in the future that is, but creating larger, more intricate sculptures is something that interests me. One of the items that I have started working on is a small table. I purchased a wooden table (one you put together) and my plan is to cover it with polymer clay. Not sure yet if I will extend the top down the legs or not, but we’ll see. The hard part is deciding what I want to design on it.
Exploring my roots. Dipping further into my roots, I’ve been studying Scandinavian design, as my great-grandmother was 100% Norwegian. As a previous graphic designer, the “compartmentalized shape-designs” really appeal to me. I like the hard, delineated lines that look almost like cut paper. Bold colors are often used. As this table develops, I will upload photos of my progress. I’m excited to see the progress and use the lessons I learn along the way in exploring larger pieces. You may not know, but polymer clay is typically cured in a kitchen or convection oven. This will give you a good idea of the restrictions I’ll need to work around during the baking process. I’ll need to bake the table in pieces and then reconstruct it once complete. Stay tuned for more on this exciting project!
