Girl with a Pearl Earrings

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Scrap of Clay Art Studio’s jewelry so unique?”

Most jewelry businesses create one style of each product and that’s all you have to choose from. My concentration is about your preferences when designing the jewelry you buy. If a particular color of clay doesn’t fit your vision, I’ll change it. You have the option of deciding what type of materials you want each piece made from.

“I’m allergic to some metals. What do you use for the metal portions of your jewelry?”

Materials used are hypoallergenic in nature. Because products are made to your specifications, I am able to ensure that safe metals are used that will not harm your health while wearing my jewelry. While not all findings are available in each metal-type, I do my very best to find materials to meet your expectations and will communicate with you if something you have requested is not available and will offer options that are. If you have a specific allergy, please let me know this before creating your order.

Metals used are:

  • Gold-Plated

  • Silver-Plated

  • Stainless Steel

  • Brass

“I have a preference in earring backs. Do you accommodate?”

Yes. Scrap of Clay Art Studio offers earring backings in gold-plated, stainless steel, stainless steel with a secure lock back, and an all-plastic nut back. Please let me know which you’d like before purchase.

“How do I care for my polymer clay jewelry?”

Each purchase comes with a reminder card on how to care for your jewelry.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals (e.g., chlorine, bleach, perfumes, etc.).

  • Avoid bending jewelry too much.

  • Refrain from wearing to bed or in the shower.

  • Use a damp cloth to gently wipe off dirt or dust. You may use a bit of mild soap, if necessary.

  • As with any jewelry, store in a dry, cool place.

  • Using the box or bag you received the jewelry in is an excellent choice.

“I am very concerned about the environment. What steps have you taken to address waste?”

While brainstorming what to accomplish with Scrap of Clay, one of the concerns was remaining ecofriendly and using sustainable packaging. The goal is to reduce the carbon footprint of Scrap of Clay Art Studio’s effects on the environment as much as possible. My packaging is sourced from companies whose first priority is offering recycled products and tracking water, CO2, electricity, barrels of oil, and trees saved.

“How long can I expect my polymer clay jewelry to last?”

Your jewelry will last for many years provided it is cared for properly. Similar to any jewelry, store your pieces in a cool, dry environment.
